Experience orienteering (You Tube video): "Xperience Orienteering" (click to see video)
Orienteering is a recreational and competitive sport, a kind of hiking/running game, which involves using a detailed map and compass, to navigate through terrain. You can participate by competing in groups, or as individuals.
The object is to find a series of points shown on a map, choosing routes, both on and off trail, that will help you find all the points and get back to the finish in the shortest amount of time. The points on the course are marked with orange and white flags accompanied by electronic or mechanical punches, which provide proof that the point was visited.
There can be several possible courses for different skill levels ranging from small children (String-O), to highly advanced courses for competitors with years of experience.
We provide the maps, and you can rent a compass if you don't own one, and even some assistance getting started. Sneakers and light clothing, appropriate for hiking/running in the woods are recommended.
Don't forget sunscreen, bug spray, and very important, water for every participant.
A Color Map is $6 for members and $9 for non-members.
A special rate of $5 for organized youth groups when the group leader handles all paperwork and payment of fees.
Extra maps are $3 each.
Compass rentals are $4 each for those who need one.
Timing stick rentals are $4 each.
